#91 – Showing Businesses the Light
SUMMARY: Stephen discusses how to show business owners the light and succeed on marketing their businesses.
[00:00:14] Stephen: Hey guys, Stephen Esketzis here from Marketing on the Move. I’m coming to you live from a trip home now. I just met up with someone I was asked to catch up with. And I can’t name names, but she basically had a really bad experience with an agency who was trying to help her grow her business. And she’s launching this course. And basically, trying to work with the agency, had this really cool course. I can’t — I don’t even know if I can really talk about the topic just yet. Maybe I’ll do it in a future episode if I asked her permission and stuff. But basically, the very first time I met with her, she’s killer personality, killer business. The niche she’s in is really different. It’s actually a real brick and mortar kind of niche. And she’s amazing at what she does. She’s got an amazing website, has high level clients that pay in excess of $20,000 all the way up to $60,000, $70,000, if not more for her services at the high end. And it’s an actual service. It’s to do with building a home. I’ll leave it at that. And I can probably go into it more in a future episode. But basically, that’s it, and it’s part of building a new home, that process. It’s one of the parts of that process. [00:01:28] And she helps these people with this process. She’s launched a new business, so she’s got her service side, which is her actually going out and doing it. And now, she’s also launched a course, which is how to do it yourself and helping a segment of the market do it themselves. So, this course, she actually — she’s like, “Stephen, look, I spend about –” I think it was $9,000 or $8,000 — “with this agency. They rebuilt the whole website. They told us that website was crap, rebuilt the website, started doing our ads.” Now, she has a free trial on her course and funnily enough, she’s actually smart enough to pick up a copy of ClickFunnels Infusionsoft. So, she’s got a lot of the tools there in place that I would recommend anyway, but basically, nothing was performing. She’s like, “This agency is completely ripping us off. The results that they’re getting for us are worse than we were getting ourselves.” And it’s a course selling for like, $700 for six months. And it’s a monthly options as well in there, so it’s a few different parts in there. The funnel itself is a little bit broken, but all in all, it’s a great course. And it’s built on ClickFunnels. The modules are amazing, the design is incredible and it’s perfect in her niche and no one else in the market is doing something like this. [00:02:39] So, really, really excited, and I was like, “Man, this looks awesome.” She’s like, “Yeah, but the agency, we’re giving them thousands of dollars. We spent almost $10,000 with them and they’re getting results that were worst than we trying to do it ourselves.” I’m like, “That’s ridiculous.” I’m like, “Show me what they did.” And they completely butchered what they were trying to do. In terms of the strategy, I’m like, “So, what do they do?” And she’s like, “Oh, they told us that we had to redo our website and they charged us for that. They charged us for Facebook ads.” I’m like, “Can you show me?” She’s like, “Oh, they haven’t given us the Facebook ad dashboard.” I’m like, “Geez! You got a website. You got an amazing product, but the fact that the agency, you know, these guys that are supposed to be experts trying to work with you don’t know anything. They don’t know what a funnel is. They don’t know any of this stuff. [00:03:18] So, I basically told her, “This is the funnel you need. Build this webinar funnel. This is how we’re going to package the product. This is how you’re going to build a webinar that converts. This is how we’re going to do the ads. Completely ditch what you’re doing right now with the agency. Don’t waste your money.” And I walked her through it because I think she’s got an amazing product. The people who go through the course are going to have incredible results. And it’s just literally a fantastic program. And this is one of her new businesses that goes alongside her current service. So, what she’s doing is phenomenal. I really think she can help a lot of people with it. [00:03:55] And basically, I’m really excited to show the light. And it just hit me, I was like, you know, showing people the light of — there’s actually so many business owners out there that have a great program, great course, great content, great product, but just have no idea about marketing, and relying on these experts, these agencies out there that are charging an arm and a leg for average results. And it just astounds me. She doesn’t come from a digital marketing background, but the amount of people out there that try to like, you know, not rip people off, but they’re supposed to be the experts. They’re actually not getting any results at all. And it’s just crazy to see how many people are — there must be way more people like her out there, great at their craft but shocking at the marketing or just unaware of the marketing, and therefore lacking and suffering from the results. [00:04:45] So, I really felt for her and I was like, “Man, I’m so excited because you’re almost there. If these guys didn’t lead you the wrong way, you’d have so much more potential and so much more to work with.” So, basically, excited to work with her, excited to show her what she can do. And I just want to create this quick little episode and basically, if you’re doing marketing, if you’re out there, if you’re working in this space, there’s always going to be people that are lower than you in terms of the level of knowledge, in terms of the level of expertise, in where you’re at in your business. So, if you think that you don’t know much and you’re looking to learn from experts and things like that, there’s a lot more people out there at a beginner level who probably need help; a lot of people out there who probably you can help even if you don’t know that much. You don’t have to be a complete expert. You don’t have to be world’s number one. There’s so many people out there that are 75th million struggling. They’ve got a great a product, but they just need help. They need a bit of guidance. [00:05:45] So, have a look, see who you can help, see who you can show the light to in terms of their marketing or whatever your expertise is because they really need help. And there’s amazing products, there’s amazing opportunities out there for taking on really good quality clients. And it’s just a little bit of a nudge, I think people need in the right direction. There’s so much potential out there, but people are just led astray or they’re not sure, they aren’t aware. [00:06:08] So, what I would recommend is, the marketing out there — the availability, I guess, to market to the people who are at a different level in their business, they might not be looking for an answer right now, but if you put some content out there, you become the authority. So many people can be — you can draw them to you based on building that authority. It’s just like, yeah, we follow these blogs as well, I’m like, here you go, it’s just building authority. There’s so much potential out there is what I’m trying to say. So guys, keep at it. Build that authority. Give people the opportunity to work with you. Show them the light. Not everyone is at your level. And you can definitely work with people and get them up and get them up to the pace they need to be at. [00:06:47] So, hopefully that helps a little bit.
