[0:00:14.4] Hey everybody, Stephen here from Marketing on the Move. And today, I’m driving to the office. And I wanted to share with you a little rant that I had for a while.
It happened over the weekend so it’s Monday over here now. I’m just on my way to the office and this weekend, I reached out to a few people to invite them to my podcast, and I had a couple of interesting responses.
And one response was, one common response which I’ve noticed along a few of the marketers out there reply with, is they’ll say,
“Oh, how many downloads do you have?”
“What’s your downloads?”
“How many people can you reach?”
Now, while I get that it’s an important thing to know, I still don’t think that that is something that should make or break being on someone’s podcast. It’s simply the amount of downloads.
So I think my rant starts with if I’ve invited you onto my podcast, you’re more than happy to not accept it and to decline it if you’re too busy or something like that. But I think when you start asking for screenshots of information of my download numbers, and so you know how many people I could actually bring on and can listen to, I think that’s kind of like going to a dinner party and saying,
“Well, who else is going to be there?” or
“What’s the food going to be like?” or asking all these questions about the dinner party that you’ve just been invited to.
If you go into a dinner party, just accept it or reject the invitation based on who’s invited you or what your availability is like. You don’t go through and say,
“Well, who else is going to be there? How many people are going?”
And I’ve got some friends that do this as well. It’s really frustrating when you say, “Are we going out?”
And then they’ll say, “Okay. Well, who else is going to be there?”
And when you’re like, “Look, I’ve organized for a group of us to go, but do you want to go or not?”
I mean, it’s the same sort of logic.
[0:02:05.0] And I found it really frustrating when I had a couple of replies being like, “How many downloads does your thing got?”
And to be honest, my podcast actually has fairly few downloads. So you listeners out there are doing pretty well and I appreciate you, but yeah, it was interesting.
I think with this sort of questions, you don’t go to a top podcast and say,
“All right. Well, how many downloads do you have?” You just accept it.
[0:02:27.9] And I kind of understand where they’re coming from. I mean, you need to make sure your time is well-spent, the places where you’re going to get listened to, you’re going to get heard.
But these people know who’s reaching out to. They won’t go Vaynerchuk’s. They weren’t guys that will be getting off left, right and center all the time, so it’s interesting.
I found that really interesting, a little bit frustrating because you go to the effort of reaching out, you ask them to come on. And look, I completely understand if they’re busy or they don’t want to come on for any reason, they got other commitments, but when you start asking about download numbers and where your download is from and all this sort of stuff, I think that’s just getting a little bit too nitpicky, a little bit too, I think you’re a bit of a celebrity status.
So yeah, it was interesting. Anyway, that was my opinion on the whole podcaster’s issue.
[0:03:19.5] But other than that, the weekend was phenomenal, had fantastic weather here in Melbourne. Didn’t get a ton of work done, but it was a good weekend. We went actually property-hunting on my Saturday.
That is now my Saturday schedule for a few months. Every Saturday, just a Saturday morning heading out, having a look at a couple of properties in the area. And aside from that, it was a pretty nice weekend, just chilled out.
[0:03:47.2] But heading into the office now back to work, and the first two things I want to do, and I’m trying to set the person in here. So every Monday morning, I’m going to try keep this up, is to drop two massive value posts in two Facebook groups because I’ve realized that I’m in a lot of these Facebook groups.
And I actually released a blog post recently about how to become an authority, how to position yourself. And as usual, I wasn’t following my own advice for whatever reason it might have been.
But two things that I’m going to be heading off to do now is drop massive value bombs in a couple of Facebook groups, put together a nice piece for both of them, where I feel I can provide some free value to everybody, and then get straight into it. I’ve got a couple of blog posts to write.
You’ll see that’s coming out in the ClickFunnels’ blog.
[0:04:34.9] Yeah, so there’s a lot happening this beautiful Monday morning. Well, I just thought I’d leave you with that, guys. I thought I’d drop that little rant I had.
And another thing I wanted to quickly mention was I’ve done some periscopes in some Friday evenings. So let me know, if you guys jump on periscope on my Friday night, which if you’re in America is usually your Friday morning probably, then let me know what you think of it.
Do you guys enjoy periscope?
Will you prefer podcasting?
There’s a whole lot of different things that you can try, and I thought I’d try it out and see what it’s like.
So let me know, guys. Otherwise, have a fantastic day and I’ll speak to you soon.
