Meet online marketing expert Yogesh Dhawan

How did you get into internet marketing?

I was always fond of technology ever since I was a kid. Initially, I wanted to be a multimedia designer, but for some reason, I was not able to pursue it. Then, at the age of 19, I came to Australia and stepped into sales. I was good at it Yogesh_Dhawanbecause between the ages of 8 to 10 years old I used to help my dad in his business and sell general stuff in his shop. Then, in 2008, internet marketing gained my attention while I was searching for some products online. After learning a little about internet marketing, I started using it to book appointments for direct selling of different products and that’s when I decided to just rely on internet marketing instead of door-knocking and making calls for hours. I like the idea of inbound instead of outbound marketing instead marketing, which is basically generating the need or targeting the customers who are in need of my products. I knew that this was the opportunity and that’s how I got into internet marketing.

What are some conversion optimization tips for our readers?

This is a very hot topic and will forever be as all marketing efforts are worth nothing if your website visitors are not converting into potential customers. You are not doing public service, you are here to earn money so you don’t want people to visit your website and leave without giving you any benefit. Some easy, general rules of conversion optimization are:

  • User-friendly content: You must have user-engaging content on your website if you want to convert visitors into customers. Most people use lots of keywords in to rank on search engines but forget the main purpose of their website. 5 sales from 50 visitors is better than 2 sales from 200 visitors and, over time, because of a lower bounce rate and longer visitor duration, search engines will trust your website and reward you with higher rankings. So, think about users when writing content.
  • Contact forms: The internet is open 24 hours, but you are not. So, make sure you have contact forms on all your pages which are ranking in search engines. So that you won’t miss an inquiry if you are asleep or otherwise occupied.
  • Easy Navigation: Make sure your website is easy to navigate. People are very lazy these days and they just want what they want ASAP, so make sure you provide them what they want ASAP.
  • Website Speed: This is very important because people immediately close websites that take longer to open. It’s very easy for basic websites but much harder for larger websites, good-looking websites because they are very design-heavy.

What’s your biggest struggle with internet marketing?

My biggest struggle in internet marketing is that it changes every day and it’s hard to get to know and understand everything. However, if you have a proper system in place, this struggle becomes fun and you enjoy learning new things every week. Also, producing high quality content regularly is hard, but again, if you are smart you can figure out a way to get things done faster.

Where do you see your business going in 2015?

For me 2015 is all about expanding. That means becoming an authority in the online marketing field and helping small and medium businesses as much as I can.

If you could leave our readers with one last piece of business advice, what would it be?

The first thing that comes to mind is provide value to your clients and don’t just do business for the sake of money. When you provide value to your customers, the money will flow automatically.
