Johnny Vieira’s success in music industry
How did you decide that you wanted to go into the music business?
I have only known music and or the music business. Ever since I was a kid. By 12 I was writing and playing music. In fact I had my first real guitar lesson at 13 years old at a local Music store in San Leandro called Music Unlimited. Miraculously the store is still there in the same spot today. I guess that was the start and I never looked back. I studied Music theory in College but then dropped out to move to Los Angeles when I was about 21. After about 5 or 6 years of being an artist I knew I was supposed to be the guy behind the artist so I founded Johnny On the Spot Productions. Things just kind of went from there when I spotted and started working with Vanessa Hudgens. After the High School Musical blew up for us things were never quite the same again. She has obviously moved on since then but you never forget your first big success. It was incredible. I’ve never looked back since then and continue to find, develop and manage talent today.
What routes to market do musicians have nowadays? How do you market musicians in the present day?
Most people would answer the Internet but I don’t feel that way at all. Yes the Internet will help with social media but there are a million other artists competing for attention on the Internet so it’s harder than ever to break an act. Even the most talented take years to break because there are so many artists fighting for a spot on a national level but with a lot of hard team work between management and the artist success can eventually prevail.
What do you think is the driving factor for your success and growth recently?
My success comes from my hard work and drive as well as my passion for my artists and their music. I am a full time Personal Manager and that means I’m on the clock 24/7 available to my artists at all times. I also am always building my brand and new brands as well. I originally started J.O.T.S. productions back in 2001 and then phased into J.O.T.S. Entertainment. In 2012, I founded Johnny Vieira Management (J.V.M.) In 2014 I launched my consulting company called Vieira Media Consulting. V.C.M is a full-service music, media, technology, and entertainment consulting company that offers our clients a wide range of solutions, serving projects involving both established and developing artists, brands, and companies… So for me it’s always evolving
Where do you see the company going this 2015?
For 2015 I have several young artists I am currently developing and producing. Also I am very excited for Breanna Kennedy (also known as Bre Kennedy). She has relocated to Nashville and is working with so many great writers thanks to our relationship with Curvature / Kobalt Music. I also created a young male country group called The Country Boyz. I will keep some mystery on that project but think Luke Bryant meets One Direction. It’s going to be something very fresh and new. And there is an18 year old female singer songwriter named Kaiya Im about to sign from the Pacific North West who I am really excited about…
If you could leave our readers with one last piece of business advice, what would it be?
This will sound cliché but never give up and always follow your heart, your instincts and most importantly your dreams. If you go into show business knowing the challenges you’re going to face you will already be ahead of the game. Also you always want to stick with the managers, producers and people in general who believed in you from the beginning. I can’t stress this enough. Once you’re already getting traction every industry exec will love you. But who supported you when you were a new artist with only a dream? Well that’s the person who you want there by your side when you guys fulfill that dream together. Never ever forget that…
